INVITATION

Toronto Aikikai is pleased to announce a Iaido and Iaijutsu seminar featuring Malcolm “Tiki” Shewan who is the co-technical director of the European Federation of Iai. Tiki Sensei was the most senior of Tamura Sensei’s direct students and has been a professional instructor of Iaido and Aikido in Europe since the early 1970’s. Tiki’s CV is available here and has Menkyo Kaiden in multiple styles of Traditional Japanese Swordmanship.

Tiki has a great knoweldge not only of multiple Koryo Ryu but also of swordmaking history which he is going to provide a special lecture and presentation on Friday October 24th night at the dojo.

12:00 pm -  2:00 pm Lunch (choice of donburi included with seminar fee
2:00 pm -  3:30 pm Iaido
3:30 pm -   5:00 pm Iaido

October 26th
10:30 am - 12:00 pm Iaido
12:00 pm - 1:30 pm Iaijutsu

The class schedule is subject to change.
There will be a few minute break between classes.
Please bring Iaito (practice sword) or bokken with saya but no shinken (live blades)      

LUNCH There will be a catered lunch form Suzume on Saturday for those who register online and pay for the seminar prior to the deadline. (See below for deadline and Registration.)

There are 3 different meal options available which can be selected within the Registration Form, as follows:
  • Miso Eggplant  - Donburi / Rice Bowl
    Eggplant, Pepper Beni Shoga, Green Onion / Vegetarian.

  • Ojako Don - Donburi / Rice Bowl   
    Chicken, Egg, Onion, Green Onion, Beni Shoga, Pickled Daikon.
     
  • Ginger Pork Don - Donburi / Rice Bowl   
    Pork, Ginger, Onion, Cabbage, Beni shoga, Green Onion.

To receive the free meal you must register and make payment by the deadline of October 17th, 2025   

While you may register and pay for the seminar at any time, we are unable to order a meal for you if we receive payment after the deadline.

DIRECTIONS AND PARKING Toronto Aikikai is located at 58 Ritchie Avenue, just steps from the Dundas West subway station, from the intersections of Dundas St. West and Bloor St. West, and from the intersections of Dundas St. West and Roncesvalles Ave.

If you are driving your best bet for parking is at the Loblaws parking lot just behind the dojo. There is a walkway from the parking lot onto Ritchie Avenue.

COVID-19 POLICY Standard hygiene practices are in effect at the dojo.
We suggest all seminar participants and visitors self-test before coming to the dojo and abstain from coming if showing any COVID-19, respiratory or other potentially communicable disease symptoms.
Use of masks at the dojo is optional.
